I have been a practicing attorney for over a decade. My experience includes positions with large law firms in the U.S. as well as general counsel work with foreign financial firms in Vietnam.
With the recent housing collapse and economic difficulties, I saw a need to help folks, particularly those within the Washington D.C. metro region who are limited English proficient, in navigating the Federal housing assistance programs. To that end, I spent all of my pro bono efforts since the beginning of 2009 working with a Northern Virginia non-profit to provide loan modification counseling and legal assistance.
At the end of 2009 I began focusing on using the Federal Bankruptcy Code to help homeowners who could not benefit from the Federal Government's Making Home Affordable HAMP process.
I am licensed to practice law in the following courts and jurisdictions:
- * Virginia (2003)
- * Maryland (2004)
- * District of Columbia (2001)
- * Illinois (inactive) (1999)
- * United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia (2010)
- * United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland (2010)
- * United States District Court for the District of Maryland (2010)
I strongly believe in an attorney's duty to contribute one's time and abilities back to assist the community. My past efforts have included service with:
- * Boat People SOS ("BPSOS"), pro bono volunteer
- * National Alliance of Vietnamese American Service Agencies ("NAVASA"), board member
- * Asian Pacific American Bar Association of the Greater Washington DC Area ("APABA-DC"), board member
- * Asian American LEAD ("AALEAD"), volunteer mentor
- * Asian Pacific American Film ("APAFilm"), board member
I am a proud graduate of Northwestern University School of Law and served on the Law Review. I really enjoyed law school and chose purple - Northwestern's color - as the theme for this site to remind me of my time there.
I was born in Vietnam, have lived in the D.C. area since 2000, but consider myself a native New Yorker. My wife is a long time Federal employee and we live in Northern Virginia with our young daughter.
I hope the above gave you a sense of who I am and my professional and personal outlook on things. Thanks for reading and feel free to inquire further about any of the above when we next talk.
